Dino Di Tomassi is Italian and a registered lawyer in Madrid. In his professional career, he has international experience acquired in multinational companies operating in different European markets and he studied the ISDE Corporate Law Master in the previous edition. When choosing a postgraduate program, Di Tomassi recommends opting for one that, in addition to being excellent at the academic level, is useful in the workplace.

Most of your professional career has been focused on legal advice for companies as an internal lawyer, what advantages does it offer before compared to a law firm?

I would not talk so much about advantages, but about a different approach. Legal advice, whether from an external lawyer or an internal one, is specified in a legal opinion in which the professional assesses risks and provides advice to his client.

However, the level of knowledge of the business, the dynamics and the technical limits of a company reached by a lawyer from its legal counsel, often allows him to provide a more concrete, understandable and, therefore, useful work for the recipient

Therefore, I would say that the most interesting thing in the work of an internal legal counsel is the possibility of analyzing every aspect of the sector in which the company operates, from the legal framework to the most technical aspects, thus achieving a 360 degree view of the business.

Why did you choose the Master in Corporate Law of ISDE? In what has it contributed to you in your professional career?

I chose the Master in Corporate Law, for the interdisciplinary vocation of the program, which allows in depth legal, tax, technical and even human aspects of business life. The knowledge acquired during the master allows me to carry out my duties with more creativity and security.

Of all the experience in the program, what do you value most?

The passion with which some teachers knew how to transmit their knowledge, facilitating and accelerating learning and colleagues with whom, after close collaboration during the master, I have maintained a friendly relationship.

What advice would you give to a law student who, after finishing his degree, is thinking about taking a master’s degree?

That they follow their inclinations, but not without forgetting that the master you choose has to be useful for the labor market in which you want to operate.

From your personal experience, to what extent is it important to speak languages ​​and have international experience to access the labor market? And to promote?

Speaking languages ​​is very important if we consider that each language can open one or more new markets to the professional, multiplying the chances of finding the job that you like the most. The international experience is nothing but the reflection or the consequence of the use of languages. However, I think that to promote, languages ​​can be more or less useful depending on the context (multinational or not) of the company in which you work.

On Saturday, October the 27^th, the inauguration ceremony of the new academics of the Very Illustrious International Academy of Sciences, Technology and Humanities took place in the Royal Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes, current Valencian Library.

During the event and after the opening remarks by the His Excellency, President of the Academy, Mr. José Hoyo, mentions were given to different university related personalities and the world of arts and sciences throughout Spain that have contributed to the national and international expansion of the Academy. Among the personalities that were decorated by the Most Illustrious Academy, President of ISDE and Academic of Honor, His Excellency Mr. Jorge Pintó stands out, who was awarded the Cross for Academic Merit.

Former national soccer coach Vicente del Bosque said that the ideal coach for him should be a leader who is “credible”, positive and affable, but who should not shout because, according to him, “that does not represent authority”, and he stressed that good coexistence in the dressing room is the path that has led him to success, in Real Madrid and the Spanish National team.

“The coach must be a credible leader, a person who sets the road map of a good coexistence and establish a game system, what kind of leader, very demanding, yes, but kind, affable and optimistic. He expressed his liking for “excited”, “inspiring” and “generous” players. “Without passion to do things, it’s impossible for us to do it, it’s not bad for players to be able to express their opinions and they should be generous because that reinforces it, and therefore, makes it a better group,” he said. Del Bosque declared himself fortunate because of that feeling of “belonging to a club” like Real Madrid, where he spent 36 years and where the then president Santiago Bernabéu and coach Luis Molowny were his referents. “There was a time when I felt essential in the club, but not as a player or coach, but in the quarry work, I thought I would be working there all my life and I felt very useful,” he said.

Laína Covián Marquiegui is a student of the Degree in Law and Master in International Law from ISDE. Civil and Criminal Law are among your favorite subjects. This year she is in the second year and has already done internships in a Law firm: RLD. Although she has thought of presenting the public examination for State Lawyer, she does not rule out developing her career in a prestigious law firm. Maybe outside of Spain. And for that, she is committed to a training that, in addition to Law, connects her with the professional sector.

When choosing a program such as the Degree in Law & Master in International Law, what is your professional objective?

Get very far in the sector of law. In principle, I plan on competing to be a State Lawyer, but I do not rule out the option of working in a good firm either in Spain or abroad once I have secured the public examination.

Once in the program, what do you value most?

There are two things that are undoubtedly the most valued, both very different and necessary: ​​the first is that the Degree in Law & Master in International Law from ISDE is a program that as it is taught opens many doors for the future, prepares you for tomorrow, not just for an exam in January or May. This is thanks to the practical approach of all the subjects, to the master that complements this training and especially to the internships.

Another thing that I value most about ISDE is people, from my classmates to my teachers. Going to live away from home, away from your family and friends to a new and bigger city is not easy. But there are people wherever you are who always make you feel at home, people who manage to make you more and more excited about your career, your future and friends who would not change for anything.

Which is your favorite subject?

So far, I have studied several subjects that I liked a lot and among them I could not decide on one. Last year my favorite subject was Civil Law, Contracts and Obligations; I found it interesting, logical and entertaining. In addition, everything I learned about this subject was very useful later during the month of internship. Among the subjects of the second year there are two that have caught my attention and that every day I like more: Criminal and Administrative Law.

How was your first work experience in an office?

It was a unique experience. I have been doing internship at RLD, a legal boutique for business counsel. When I arrived the first week, the senior lawyers did not know what tasks or jobs to entrust to a student of first year of Law. Little by little, they realized that I could be of help in many things; for example, seeking jurisprudence in databases related to pending cases, comparing and reviewing contracts, translating documents…

How has this experience contributed to you training, personally and professionally?

Personally, both the internship and the fact of having a work schedule, of relating with professional lawyers, of following rules of protocol and discipline and of working in a group, has helped me to mature and to be able to see how could be my possible day to day in the future. Professionally, the internships involve work experience; In my opinion absolutely essential nowadays and valued by all.

Looking forward to your next internships, where would you like to work?

I would like to work in a large international civil or criminal law firm, where every day I have the opportunity to practice and improve my English.

As a law student, do you think your training responds to the reality of the labor market?

Definitely. In fact, this is precisely one of the things that I value most of this training that ISDE offers me. They do not teach us only Law, but they teach us to be lawyers and prepare us from the first moment to know how to be and work in a great law firm

To what extent do you consider it important to have international experience?

Being able to study abroad part of our master’s subjects supposes a cultural and personal enrichment, very necessary also for the future. Last July, the undergraduate students went to the University of Cambridge to take subjects such as Common Law, Common Wealth, Brexit … This stay abroad has been an unforgettable experience for all, in which we have learned a lot and we have known another country with its culture, people and customs. But what is noteworthy about this trip is that, above all, it has united us not only as companions but also as friends.

The need to transform organizations has become one of the top priorities for law firms, which is a major challenge for human resources managers worldwide.

The importance to attract the right talent, the search for continuous learning models among employees and the lack of agility to respond to changes are other challenges that human resources departments must face in the short term.

To analyze these challenges, ISDE, by celebrating the second ISDE Forum, has brought together prestigious industry experts such as Melisa Rojas, Simmons & Simmons HR director, who stressed that “we must go beyond disruptive technologies that not only affect the work of the lawyer but of his client “.

On the other hand, Nuria Martín, director of HR of Cuatrecasas, pointed out that “technology is a driver to go to work forms more agile and more collaborative. The talent must serve to manage new spaces, new processes and new culture “. She also indicated that “continuous training and specialized training is almost a requirement for new lawyers. Asia is the economic, political and cultural center of the 21^st century. Europe, the USA and the rest of the regions cannot ignore their economic importance or their political and cultural influence at present. The United Kingdom, Italy, France and the Netherlands have a long tradition of business in Asia, for centuries. However, it is not the case of Spain.

Therefore, being able to establish and maintain business relationships in Asia should be a goal for any company or international organization, regardless of their activity, size or preferences.

Understanding the idiosyncrasies and essential elements shared by most Asian countries is essential to start and consolidate business in these markets. On Wednesday afternoon, in ISDE´s Madrid campus, two master sessions for students of the Degree in Law and Master in International Law too place. The first one was imparted by Hon. Mr. Ignacio Cuesta Areces, Dean of the Bar Association of Oviedo, whose intervention dealt with “advertising and unfair competition in the legal services; deontological implications “.

Afterwards, the session “the prosecutor of the courts, key piece in the modern Administration of Justice”, which was given by the Hon. Mr. Gabriel María de Diego Quevedo, Dean of the Illustrious Association of Procurators of Madrid.

Once more, ISDE offers its students an elite faculty and an exclusive methodology, consisting of combining theoretical learning with analysis, legal argumentation and practical examples. This system allows the student, in addition to know in depth and rigor the legal institutions and the rules that make up our system, understand and develop the practical application of Law in its different specialties.

The subjects they studied, and those that were examined on the last school day, are Common Law, Commonwealth, ADR and Brexit, taught by prestigious professors who achieved the attention of the students through a didactic and participatory teaching method. In addition to these, it is worth highlighting the courses taught by Professor Kalyani, from the prestigious Jindal University of India, specifically the Moot Court, which consisted of a group work that ended with an explanation in the form of an oral presentation to the rest of the students to their colleagues.

They also participated in workshops that were directed by lawyers of prestigious English firms, to which they could ask about their work experience in the world of law and specifically in that country.

Along with the classes, the students have enjoyed and enriched their academic stay in the United Kingdom with field trips and activities in London and Oxford, among other cities in the country.

Professionals and young students linked to the world of sports law will meet at the International Football Forum, an initiative organized by the University of San Francisco in Quito (Ecuador) and which has the support of ISDE. The congress will take place on August 30 and 31 at the campus of the Quito University.

This congress aims to make a sober, current and profound contribution to the analysis of football issues in Latin America. The aim is to bring a new vision and knowledge to all the agents involved in this sport, thus promoting a greater involvement of private companies, educational institutions, consumers, leagues and professional teams in the management of sporting events to win in quality.

The support of ISDE to this initiative is part of its commitment to training in sports law, where the institution has different programs.
